Comics MentorThe responses I received to the last journal entry about the difficulty of breaking into the comic industry were really uplifting. It was awesome to see the next generation and my future co-workers /rivals fire!!!
Here's another article, this time on mentoring written by Steve Lieber .
I'm proud to say that Steve actually became a mentor of mine, (one of many) when I found my way to Periscope Studio. If it weren't for him I wouldn't be a professional today. Most of the professional etiquette I know comes directly from his years of experience and hard work in the industry. And before that, he learned from his own mentors! I think its super cool to finally become a part of this chain, and I hope someday I'll have the chance to help forge the next link. When I was alone and miserable trying to find my way into this industry, into ANY creative industry, I vowed if I ever made it I would turn aroComics Mentor by ~AnubiTheFrog

Better then the computer room!

HP Envy dv7 notebook...
the most advance piece of technology in the house... besides Windows 8.
I got this brand new awesome laptop, that does more then I would've asked from a computer... besides windows 8.
im working with I think an inch or an inch and a half more screen then I was with my sisters laptop, much more hard drive and ram and crap and... windows 8.
I've also hooked up my TV to this thing and been dual screening and MAN is it awesome, but... windows 8.

...im sure you've noticed some one thing has been bugging me about this computer, and you'd be right. Windows 8 is soo stupid at everything, it's so inconvenient at things that are supposed to be easy to use (especially Skype) being that some important type programs have a "Windows 8 mode" which just makes it look flashier for touch screens (cause y'know... they wanted to make a system so people who happen to use touchscreen don't have to adapt as much to a desktop interface) problem? not EVERYONE is using touchscreen, matter'o'fact, im absolutely sure most people use normal interface.

well, nagging about small several inconveniences aside, it'll take a lot of getting used to, and I don't really think I'll ever really like windows 8, but I LOVE this computer! no denying it, it's awesome to draw on, it fast, and huge, got a nice camera, and it's surprisingly good with gaming*, and it's got a finger scanner!
... cuase y'know... thats totally necessarily... it was on sale.
It's just, I had no idea windows 8 existed when I was computer shopping, and if I had already seen reviews, I probably would've looked for an older computer... but ever since I began dual screening, I got too attached XD (you never feel such an awesomeness until you're playing TF2 or COD, or drawing on SAI, or watching youtube FROM the computer, THROUGH the TV, and still doing something else on the main screen... Idunno, I was blown away)

So yea, getting familiarized with with this thing was practically what took my Spring break. funfunfun.
(* I was told, by the store people and by the internet that this thing is not suited for gaming, and that it couldn't run programs made before 2013 at all... they. were. wrong...)

Watching: me using sai, or youtube, or games... on my tv.
Playing: got soul caliber 5... feels like a letdown.
Eating: cough drops and inconvenient OS

I wished to thank you for adding a sketch of mine to your Favorites. While it's been a long time since I have worked on any related material of the kind, various ideas have remained in mind.

I can see from your Journal that you are under a degree of pressure as to your own artwork. Aye, well, I can only wish you luck in that. It's clear that you have a fair style of drawing and rendering of characters and concepts, so hopefully much of the community will reflect well on anything you produce.

thank you, im honored by your comment, I probably should've said something on the page itself, but I still really don't have any good enough words (at least in my vocabulary which ranges from things like "Bodacious" to "Badass") to express how awesome your sketches of Dr.Robotnik are
Your takes on Robotnik are some kinda mix of "Epic" and "Inspirational" truly.

I am aware that I've let this project of mine materially idle, but with the ideas I have in mind, it would make a rich focus for sketching and other work. Although it's mostly a loose set of concepts, I am looking to render a more ... Complex, yet consistent and unique interpretation of Robotnik.

In honesty, I don't take to any of the Sonic material aside from that of the SatAM materials, and then only vaguely. While I understand that the various comic and game incarnations certainly have their own longstanding detail and style... I merely choose to depart from it and keep this project as a vehicle for cycling of ideas largely garnered from some light study and reading of mine.

Thanks again, Bo. Certainly good luck in your own efforts. I hope that some of my few Sonic/Robotnik related works may prove beneficial to you... Be mindful, though, that most only find their way into the Scrap section.
